The Frankfort Fire Fighters Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 2018, plays a pivotal role in supporting the community through funding initiatives tied closely to the region’s cherished traditions. The Foundation's primary source of funding stems from the Frankfort Fall Festival Carnival, an event deeply rooted in the Village of Frankfort’s history.
History of the Fall Festival
The Frankfort Fall Festival, as it is known today, has a storied past that reflects the community's evolution. Initially established in 1961 as "Sauerkraut Days" by the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce, the event underwent several name changes, becoming "Sauerkraut and Wiener Day" in 1963 under the stewardship of the Lions Club of Frankfort. Eventually, it transformed into the Frankfort Fall Festival, growing into a hallmark event that draws thousands each Labor Day weekend.
Since 1971, the Carnival segment of the festival has been organized by the Frankfort Fire Protection District Firefighter Members Association, solidifying its partnership with the local community. The carnival not only serves as an exciting attraction for families and visitors but also as a significant fundraiser for the Foundation.
Evolution of the Foundation
Originally known as the Frankfort Fire Fighters Association, the organization was renamed the Frankfort Fire Fighters Foundation in 2010 to better reflect its mission and goals. Achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2018 allowed the Foundation to expand its charitable initiatives and reinforce its commitment to enhancing public safety and community engagement.
Supporting the Community
Proceeds from the Carnival and other fundraising activities are reinvested in programs that benefit the Frankfort community. These efforts include providing resources for fire safety education, supporting first responders, and contributing to various charitable causes.
The Frankfort Fire Fighters Foundation exemplifies how traditions and community involvement can drive meaningful support for critical services, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents for generations to come.
